When a new dentist joins an established practice, patients usually notice one thing. There are more appointment openings! When Dr. Phil Hoyt joined Holmes Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, he brought something most Fort Wayne practices don’t have. He brought the training and experience that means patients no longer have to be referred out for complex procedures.

It all happens right here, with a doctor you already know and trust. Most importantly, he chose to be here.

Why Dr. Hoyt Left a Practice He Loved

Dr. Hoyt spent eight years as an associate in Westfield, Indiana. He built relationships with patients who came back year after year. He developed his skills across every aspect of general dentistry. Dr. Hoyt earned a reputation for listening, explaining, and never rushing.

So why did he leave Indiana? Because Fort Wayne called him home. Dr. Hoyt and his family moved here on purpose. They chose to put down roots in a community they believe in. They chose Holmes Family & Cosmetic Dentistry as the place where Dr. Hoyt would continue his life’s work.

With his training and experience, he could have practiced anywhere, but he chose to do it here. That matters for patients. When a dentist chooses a community on purpose, they invest in it.

They’re not passing through. They’re building something that lasts, and that translates into the kind of care that comes from someone who plans to be around for a long time.

The Training Behind the Decision

Dr. Hoyt’s background isn’t typical. He grew up in Indianapolis’s Castleton area and graduated with Honors from North Central High School. Even as a teenager, he knew dentistry was his path. While other kids were still figuring out what they wanted to do, he shadowed dentists and volunteered in patient settings.

He studied General Health Sciences at Purdue University, then earned his Master’s in Biology from IUPUI in 2012. In 2017, he graduated in the top 10% of his class from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.

After dental school, he spent eight years in Westfield building experience across all aspects of general dentistry, including root canals, extractions, and dental implants. That hands-on experience comes from seeing hundreds of cases.

That’s the training he brings to Fort Wayne. For patients who need complex procedures, it changes the experience entirely.

What This Means for Your Root Canal

If you need a root canal, you have a choice. You can be referred to an endodontist, drive to a new office, meet a new doctor, and go through the process with someone you’ve never met.

Or you can have it done here, by a dentist who knows your history, your smile, and your concerns.

Dr. Hoyt has performed root canals for eight years. He understands the anatomy, techniques, and technology that make modern root canals comfortable and predictable. Because he’s part of your dental home, you’ll receive follow-up care in the same place.

Dr. Holmes and Dr. Hoyt consult together on cases. If your root canal needs a crown afterward, Dr. Holmes handles that step with his Kois Center training in mind. The whole process stays in the family.

That continuity matters. It means fewer phone calls, less driving, and a team that already knows your story.

What This Means for Your Implant

Dental implants are one of the most common procedures Dr. Hoyt performs. He’s placed and restored implants across hundreds of cases, and he understands the surgical and restorative phases from start to finish.

For patients, that means the implant process doesn’t have to be fragmented. In some practices, one provider places the implant, and another does the restoration. That can work, but it also means two sets of hands, two offices, and two schedules.

At Holmes Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we coordinate the process in one place. Dr. Hoyt handles the surgical and restorative work. Dr. Holmes supports the overall plan with his advanced training in how the bite, jaw, and restorations function together. The team ensures the timeline, follow-up, and final result work in harmony.

The result is an implant that doesn’t just look like a tooth. It functions like one because the people who placed and restored it understand how it fits into your whole mouth.

What This Means for Surgical Extractions

Some extractions are simple. Others are complex. Impacted wisdom teeth, teeth with curved roots, and teeth fractured below the gumline. These cases require surgical skill and experience.

Dr. Hoyt brings that. He’s performed surgical extractions for over eight years, and he understands the anatomy and technique that make these procedures safer and more predictable.

If you’ve been told you need a surgical extraction, you don’t have to be referred out. You can have it done here, by a doctor you already know.

What This Means for Families

Dr. Hoyt also brings experience in family dentistry. He’s worked with children across his career, and he understands the patience and communication that young patients need.

That’s a meaningful addition. Many general practices treat adults well but aren’t as comfortable with children. Holmes Family & Cosmetic Dentistry was already family-focused. Dr. Hoyt’s arrival makes it even more so.

For families, that means one practice for everyone. No more splitting appointments across multiple offices. No more juggling schedules. The whole family gets care under one roof, from doctors who know them.

Why Fort Wayne Matters

When a dentist chooses a community on purpose, it shows. Dr. Hoyt and his family are exploring Fort Wayne’s parks and restaurants. They’re establishing relationships in the community. They’re putting down roots.

That’s the kind of thing patients notice over time. When your dentist is also your neighbor, something changes. The relationship feels different. The care feels personal.

Dr. Holmes has been part of this community for over 20 years. He grew up in Ossian, just southwest of Fort Wayne. He speaks at local parenting groups and judges school science fairs. He’s built his career around serving families in this area.

Dr. Hoyt chose to join that. Not because it was convenient. Because it was right.
